He Sees Our Struggles and Catches Us When We Fall
[ Preached by Pastor Kenneth Chin at Acts Church Malaysia on 13 January 2018 ]
Our God sees what we are going through. He knows our struggles and He wants to come to us.
However, when we do not depend on God, He may “pass us by”.
Drawing from the bible verses below, here are three thoughts on why the Lord may pass us by:
Read | Mark 6:45-51
1
____
Because we missed Him out.
In the passage, Jesus walked on water to get to His disciples after He saw them straining at the shores. They, however did not see Him coming and He would have passed them by.
Aren’t we all sometimes, so focus on our struggles that we miss our Saviour? We fail to see the answer because our focus is misplaced. Even in His presence, sometimes we may miss Him.
Let us fix our eyes back on God (Hebrews 12:2) for He is the God that walks on water. No waves nor seas can withstand Him. All we need to do is to fix our eyes on Him and He will carry us through.
2
____
Because we seem to not need Him.
Sometimes, we may let pride get in the way and feel too experienced to need God. We may also at times let our dependency remain on what we know instead of relying on God.
In light of the fact that some of the disciples in the boat were fishermen, we can assume that they would have encountered storms in the past. Yet, they were straining.
Reliance on our own strength and experience can get in the way of the help we may need. God allows us to go through difficulty so that we can depend on Him and only when we do, He can then give us our breakthrough.
3
____
Because of our perception of who God is.
When the disciples first saw Jesus walking on water, they thought He was a ghost. In that moment, the disciples were more fearful than amazed at their God.
We become fearful of what we think will hurt us. But God comes to heal and help us. When we encounter problems, the real question is: who do you see?
Let us learn to put ourselves in a position where we are fragile before God.
Only when we depend on Him, will we trust in Him. And only when we trust in Him, can we hope in Him.
And we will see Him catching us and bringing us through our times of need.
