Jesus’ Death

[Preached by Pastor Kenneth Chin at Acts Church Malaysia on 3 April 2015]

Read | 1 Corinthians 11:26

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”

Why do we proclaim Jesus’ death? Why not focus on His resurrection instead?

The answer lies in His sacrifice, which is death, by the way.

Read| Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

People of all religions understand sacrifice as atonement for sin, but no sacrifice was truly perfect or sufficient, because the sacrifice was either of animals or of sinful men – until Jesus came.

Jesus’ death on the cross was a different kind of sacrifice.

The only mortal man without sin, unblemished, and yet sacrificed unto death. It “broke the rules” and took Satan by surprise, dealing him a crushing and permanent defeat.

It changed everything.

Jesus’ death, which we proclaim until He returns, reset our relationship with God the Father.

Not in little bits or in parts, but in its entirety. Everything that you and I have done in our past does not count anymore from the moment we say “I believe”.

Jesus made everything new again.

So live.

Thank You for the Cross.
