The Good Series: God is Good (Part 1)

This is clear from the Bible – that God is good.

What is good?

Is good same as nice? Surely it is not – nice is not the same as good. God may not seem to be nice at times, especially when He is rebuking or correcting us, but that does not mean He is not good.

Is good same as being successful? Or is good same as beautiful? Success and beauty will fade but God’s goodness is everlasting.

Goodness and mercy are intertwined.

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Whenever goodness is mentioned in the Bible, God’s mercy will surely follow.

Good happens when we find ourselves in God’s mercy.

When we depend more and more on God, we will experience His goodness. Although we are not deserving of anything from God, God still wants to bless us out of His goodness.

Do not be afraid to take a leap of faith with God. Only when we are under His mercy and thereafter experience His blessings, we will surely say that “God is so good”.

We can choose to be good.

Since we are made in His image, we are also capable of being good so long as we keep His good commandments. If our good is harnessed, the good in us will triumph over our evil.

When we choose to focus on the good in people, we will find that they will surprise us. Many of us may have stopped being good because of people’s response or treatment to us.

Aren’t we glad that God is not like that? His mercy endures forever despite our shortcomings. Whatever our response is to Him, God is still the same good God. 

He is good and He will always be!
