Church: as an Instruction (Part 2)
[Preached by Pastor Kenneth Chin at Acts Church Camp on 1 September 2018]
No matter where we are, or what we may do, Jesus made it very clear;
Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.
And this my friends, is how Christ will work through the Church.
Let’s look at Daniel’s life, one of God’s most faithful servants.
The governors knew that Daniel is steadfast in the God he worships and yet as faithful as Daniel can be, they would like to check if he is bound to slack at some point.
Daniel 6:4-5 detailed the encounter that Daniel had with the governors under Caesar’s rule. The governors were trying to find fault with him for breaking Caesar’s laws, but alas, none was found, for he is faithful even to his earthly masters.
Read | Daniel 6:10
Daniel prays to God three times every day. After returning home, Daniel goes to his upper room with his windows open toward Jerusalem, and he kneels down on his knees, prays and give thanks to God.
The Bible says that this was his custom since his early days. This shows that Daniel has been practising the same act of worship since he was young that it became a habit, something that he is accustomed to do.
What we can learn from Daniel here is consistency.
As Christians, no matter what part we may play, be it a campus student, an employee, a parent or a spouse, the one consistent thing we all need in our lives is the Word of God.
The Word of God became the custom (consistency) of Daniel. The confidence in God’s law led to the confidence that the governor will not find a single fault with him, which gave him the courage to face the lion in the den.
What we do is a product of
what we believe in and convicted to.
One question we could ask ourselves is “Do you know what you’ll be doing first thing in the morning once you’re awake?”
Some may check messages from other people, while I, for one, decide to always check the message of God first.
We may be away where there is no church leader physically to remind us to do our quiet time, but because church is an instruction, we live it out as instructed.
We go to church, serve the House of God, make disciples and live out God’s truth in every aspects of our lives.
As a matter of fact, Jesus was also instructed by God the Father to come down to earth.
The church started because
Jesus was sent from heaven to save us.
Imagine coming down from a place of paradise to a place of war and sin, I would think that it was inconvenient for Jesus to do so.
And when you come from a place of inconvenience in living a life of God’s purpose, you will find your conviction to be true and real.
